You will notice that the Long-term Opioid Therapy (LOT) Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) AIM form will change to the Pain Management CPG AIM form in September. This is to allow for a larger group of pain patients and not those who are Long-term Opioid Therapy patients. All of the opioid related information is still available on this form however several additions have been made based on a DHA research group that has piloted the changes with MHS primary care providers and their clinic staff. The MHS clinic end users gave real-time feedback to the form developers who worked to create the form that you see in front of you today.

The ultimate goal of the addition of these changes is to:

1. Provide more guidance for providers managing any pain patient when needed.

2. Aid in the clinic staff in the evaluation and understanding of a patient’s pain.

3. Provide guidance in managing pain patients before that become Long-term Opioid Therapy patients.

4. Help pain patients take a more active role in their pain recovery by adding patient education, and documentation to help develop and follow treatment goals.
